Outreach Request Form

If you would like us to help you with an astronomy outreach event, please complete the Outreach Request Form and email it to the Outreach Coordinator. Once your request is received, one of our members will look it over to see if we are able to help you and contact you to discuss various options.

If you make a request but you do not hear from us within one week, please contact other members of council. What sometimes happen is that communication links are not updated or members do not check their email because of other commitments. It is just the nature of a volunteer organization.

Unfortunately, our ability to fill outreach requests is often hampered by the weather, extended summer daylight hours, as well as a limited number of volunteers and the times during which they are available. Please contact us one or two months prior to your event to give us time to contact you and solicit volunteers.

Without a doubt, our most active group of volunteers focuses on operating the RASC Observatory at the TELUS World of Science Edmonton and many of our outreach efforts are focused on this facility. At the observatory, in addition to the regular operating times, we generally host annual events such as International Sidewalk Astronomy NightAstronomy Day and International Observe the Moon Night.

RASC Edmonton Centre conducts and participates in outreach efforts throughout the year. These include:

We can provide telescopes and astronomers for events wishing to have an astronomy component (e.g., solar viewing at Canada Day celebrations, sidewalk astronomy at Edmonton area community events). We also provide speakers and telescopes for star party requests from schools, cub and brownie groups, community leagues, Alberta Parks, and other non-profit organizations. We provide judges for the Edmonton Regional Science Fair and well as individual school fairs. In the past, our volunteers have visited many schools throughout Edmonton and such groups as the Wagner Natural Area Society and the Canadian Mental Health Association.
