Photographing the Rise of the Full Nimitahamowipisim*

UPDATE:
Cloud-wise, it was the classic iffy situation for Sep 1, but the Café went ahead as scheduled. The advancing clouds left only the lowest two degrees of sky reasonably clear to see the rising Moon. Alister Ling and Luca Vanzella hosted two members, Shane and Victor in capturing the rise. Above is Luca’s composite image of the event.

FREE Members only event.

Presented by RASC members Alister Ling and Luca Vanzella.

If you have always wanted to photograph the Full Moon rising above a scenic landscape but you aren’t sure how to do it – this Astro Café is for you! Veteran skyscape shooters Alister Ling and Luca Vanzella will guide you through all of the steps necessary to get that perfect shot.

This Astro Café is designed for people that own a DSLR (Digital Single-Lens Reflex) camera – we won’t be using any phone or point-and-shoot cameras. Familiarity with your DSLR camera is beneficial but not absolutely required.

* In the Cree Culture, the full moon of September 2020 is known as Nimitahamowipisim, the Rutting Moon, marking the time of year the bull moose scrapes the velvet from his antlers in preparation for mating season. See: https://creeliteracy.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/2020CalendarSR-ACO6.pdf. The Colonial American name of the September 2020 full moon is the Corn Moon.
