Bugs in Spaaaaace!

20140414julia_foght A microbiologist’s view of Astrobiology and The Habitable Zone

Julia Foght is a Professor of Microbiology at the University of Alberta, and is past member of the Canadian Space Agency Astrobiology Discipline Working Group. Her interest in the field of Astrobiology grew out of her field work in Antarctica and research into microbes living beneath glaciers from Nunavut to New Zealand’s Southern Alps. Dr. Foght talked about some of the factors that potentially influence the distribution and colonization of exoplanets, based on earthly analogues and microbial ‘extremophiles’. We were asked to be prepared – there was biology and it was cool!
