Citizen Astronomer Monitoring of SS Cygni

Dr. Sivakoff discussed how citizen astronomers’ monitoring of SS Cygni, one of the most observed variable stars since its discovery in 1896, has enabled him and his collaborators to measure a new accurate, model-independent distance to the star. The new result places the improves our understanding of accretion disc theory.
