The RASC Edmonton Centre and the TELUS World of Science celebrated International Astronomy Day on Saturday, May 2, 2009, at 11211-142 Street NW. Activities included:

Observatory
1:00 PM to 11:00 PM

  • Solar Viewing in the afternoon (weather permitting)
  • Crescent Moon, Saturn and other deep sky objects in the evening (weather permitting)

RASC Information Booth
Lobby 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM

  • Information on the RASC, Beginner Observing, Telescopes
  • Information on Light Pollution and Responsible Lighting

Children’s Activity Table
Lobby 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM

  • Build Your Own Telescope
  • Telescope kit FREE to first 100 families (1 kit per family), thereafter $10/telescope
  • Free instruction from the RASC
  • Colour a planet or build a star clock

Edmonton Rocketry Club
Lobby 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM

  • Information on the Edmonton Rocketry Club

Telescope Clinic
Beside the Observatory 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM

  • Bring your telescope to get free help on using it from the RASC’s knowledgeable members

400 Telescopes Gathering
Observatory Lawn 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM

  • The call for telescopes brought 158 telescopes to the gathering. A bit short of the goal, but a great time was had by all with wonderful weather conditions and great evening skies.
