Black Nugget Lake Campground the home of the Northern Prairie Star Party and also serves as a dark site. Through an agreement with Beaver County, the Edmonton Centre has acquired a 10 year sublease on a portion of land at the north end of the campground. The site is still a work in progress. To date the Observing Field has been cleared, graded and graveled by the County. Electrical service has been installed with power to several RV pedestals. The shared toilet building is complete. A locked metal storage shed has been constructed on the west side of the observing area to house miscellaneous equipment.
To access the site, travel south east on Highway 14. Continue about 10 km past Tofield until you get to Range Road 182. Turn south for another 11 km until you reach Township Road 492 (map 1 and map 2). During camping season (May 1 to Thanksgiving) you will have to access the site though the main park entrance and pay the associated camping fee. During non-camping season, access is through a locked gate on the north end of the campground, 300 metres east on Township Road 492. For access codes to the gate lock and storage shed, contact the Observing Group Director.
If you are not familiar with dark sites, please read Light Etiquette for Dark Sites before you go. Thanks.
